Most people don't know what's in the vitamin and mineral supplements that they take or how to choose their supplements. Supplement quality is very important when it comes to nutrient absorption. The less expensive brands in supermarkets and drugstores cost less for a reason. They tend to put inexpensive and lesser quantities of important ingredients into mass produced supplements to make them affordable for the general public. There are therapeutic doses of vitamins and minerals that should be taken and not just the governments RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) information that is found on the labels of everything that we eat and drink.
Take Calcium Carbonate for example. How much Calcium is recommended daily? At least 400 mg each day. And what kind of Calcium should you take? The CARBONATE in CALCIUM CARBONATE verses CALCIUM LACTATE, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE or CALCIUM CITRATE are more expensive ingredients, are healthier nutrient choices, are more easily digested and absorbed into your body, all which promotes better health. But the average consumer trying to improve their overall health by purchasing supplements for daily use usually doesn't know this.
CALCIUM CARBONATE is an inexpensive supplement which is an effective source of calcium for many people, but not for those with inadequate stomach acid or other absorption problems. As people age, absorption does become a problem. That is why as people age they begin to take antacids due to poor digestion. Since older people often have such problems, CALCIUM CARBONATE is not recommended as a calcium source for those approaching age 50 and older. This is just one example of supplement information that consumers should know.

Why do we need to supplement?
This is a very logical and relevant place to start for anyone thinking about taking charge of their own health. Do I need to take supplements? If so, what kind of supplements? There are SO many options and it can be VERY confusing. And with limited dollars to spend, how can I be sure I am getting the best value? Let's start with the question of the need for supplementation. For those of us that have been in the field of natural health, specifically working closely with Jordan and his philosophies and beliefs, the answer is clear. Based on the modern day diet and lifestyle- the consumption of "foods of commerce" plus the stress and exposure to chemicals and toxins in our environment- it is nearly impossible to get the basic nutrients and nutritive compounds we need to function, especially from the foods that are available to us today.
You can attribute this to mineral and nutrient depletion of our soil due to commercial agriculture practices. You can blame it on the fact that animals are raised on by-product feed, hormones, and antibiotics. You can point to fast food, packaged food, artificial flavors and preservatives, all to satisfy our fast paced, "keep up with the Jones' lifestyle. Blame it on the soda companies and the sugar bomb cereal producers that infect our children with their advertising. Any way you slice it…we are not getting the "fuel" our bodies need every day to run efficiently.
And this breakdown in the basic foundation of our design comes with a very steep price. Our youth, our energy, our vitality, our health and the health of those we love. The cost is the abundant life God promises in His word. In John 10:10 Jesus explains to us- "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." {NASB}
Can you honestly say that you are experiencing that abundant life? Are those around you experiencing it? Hopefully you answer yes to that, but the reality for most is just the opposite. So back to the question at hand…do we need to supplement? Unfortunately, in most cases…yes. But fortunately, you don't have to be on your own in determining the right supplements to take and how to get the most for your money. Find out how you can achieve optimal health through Foundational Nutrition.
What is Foundational Nutrition?
By definition a foundation is the basis upon which something is founded or supported. When it comes to nutrition I believe there is a solid health foundation which can be built through the introduction of core nutrients. To be sure, these are not the only nutrients your body needs to achieve vibrant health. Instead I view these as the starting point for optimal health.
One of the most aggravating obstacles to achieving awesome health is the information overload that one encounters when getting started. As if it's not hard enough to make the decision to become healthy and maintain that health, we are faced with so much information that we must digest and try to utilize. It is no wonder that so many health programs fail. It's easy to see how confusion can lead directly to apathy. The concept we have come up with is unfailingly simple. Through your diet and supplementation there are four key nutrient areas that need to be addressed. Meet these bodily needs and you have laid the perfect foundation for long term health and wellness.
Core Vitamins and Minerals - There are literally thousands of vitamin, minerals, phytonutrients and nutrient co-factors that the body uses to function properly. The best way to address the body's needs where these are concerned is to eat well and supplement with a high potency multivitamin. Why do we need to supplement? READ MORE . . .
*An important note about Minerals - It is very important to monitor your mineral levels during a detoxification program or with certain medical conditions such as kidney ailments. With detox programs this should be done at the start of your program and at least every 6-12 weeks during your program. With kidney conditions please consult you health care professional on how you should proceed. It is recommended that you contact a lab such as Trace Elements to have this testing done. This is one of the only labs that doesn't wash the hair samples prior to analysis testing. Visit >> traceelements.com for more information.
Probiotics and Enzymes - We can do a great job of supplying the nutrients our bodies need through proper diet and supplementation, but what if the body can not absorb and utilize those nutrients? Enzymes help break down our food and probiotics aid the gut in absorbing the nutrients food and supplements provide.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Once a huge secret in the United States, Omega-3s are finally receiving the attention they deserve. Foods such as high omega-3 eggs and wild caught cold water fish are achieving prominence in local markets. No wonder with the amazing cardiovascular, mental, and structural (skin and bones) support these essential fatty acids provide.
Green Super foods - I believe that this class of foods will be the next to gain prominence. Green Super foods consist of dark green leafy vegetables as well as nutrient dense cereal grasses. Considering that most people do not receive their 3 - 5 servings of "greens" a day, adding these to your diet or supplementing with a comprehensive green powder formula is a great start.
