The Hospital Stay
How to have a safe hospital stay.
- Never check into a hospital alone, always take some
one with you. And have someone to check on your progress regularly.
Let your doctor know that they have permission to speak with doctors and
staff about you.
- With surgical / invasive procedures, make sure the
doctor performing the surgery has read all of the lab results and reports
before the surgery and has discussed them with you.
- When signing any documents, ask for a clear
explanation of what you are signing.
- Ask the doctor to explain the procedure, the risks,
complications and the expected outcome.
- Ask the doctor about the medications that you will
be taking after your hospital stay. How long you can expect to be on
the medications and how often you should review the medications being taken
to adjust the dosage.
- Don't be afraid to ask your doctor for his / her
license and credentials.
- If you have a bad hospital stay, complain to
management immediately.
